Theatrix is a not-for-profit cultural organization committed to nurture and enrich the heritage of performing arts from India in USA. The organization is led by veterans accomplished in the field of Theater, Television and Movies, as well as by people with a successful track record of theatrical productions and events. Theatrix is working to establish a movement that will provide a platform for the local talent to present high quality productions. Theatrix also aims to pass on its theatrical DNA to the next generation to revive Indian theatrical masterpieces, and encourage original theatrical creations.
Following an incredibly well received maiden show “Western Ghats” in BMM 2005 in Atlanta, Theatrix had a successful string of productions in 2005-06. We staged the hilarious social comedy “Soujanyachi Aishi Taishi” by Vasant Sabnis and “Mat Yaad Dila”, a Hindi translation of the evergreen play “Ashi Pakhare Yeti” by Vijay Tendulkar. We won the first prize for the ekankika “Pavasatla Pavana” during the ekankika competition arranged by Marathi Vishwa (NJ) last year. Most recently we produced a serious social drama by Ratnakar Matkari, “Udgaar”, a play that deals with complex interplay of reality and fiction, and past and the present. Under the auspices of Awishkar, 6 shows of this play were staged in Mumbai and Pune in the last week of December and first week of January. This play was critically acclaimed; and critics and audiences alike showered the Theatrix team with praises. We plan to stage several shows of Udgaar in the USA, starting with the premier show at the Middlesex County College in Edison, NJ on February 24th, 2007. click here for More details...
